How To Find the Right Perfume Scent

Perfumes have been worn by women for several centuries and have been used to entice men. Today, wearing perfume is like wearing signature clothing. It is a statement to the person’s taste and preference, it says that the person is confident, is abreast with the latest trends and news and enjoys life. But then again, there are perfume scents that contrast strongly with the personality of the wearer. It can be because the wearer likes to wear the latest and most popular scent without checking if the scent is compatible with her or not.
Chemistry plays a big role in how a perfume smells on a person and the same perfume can smell differently on different people. To truly find the right perfume scent for you will require you to do some research and a lot of patience. The following are some tips.

1) Do not go out and buy the latest perfume that came out in the market or the one that your idol is currently wearing. You have to test several perfumes to find the right one for your skin type and will suit your body chemistry.
2) Know that perfume has more concentration of essential oils and therefore will smell strongly than an Eau de Parfum. Eau de Parfum is one of the more popular variants, with a lower concentration of essential oils so it is less expensive than perfume. Eau de Toilette or Eau de Cologne/Cologne are very light variants that may smell the same but has more alcohol content and therefore fades quicker that than the others.
3) Know that there are different types of perfume scents – floral, woodsy, musk, citrusy and spicy scents. Depending on the base oils used, these scents are further categorized into heavy or light scents. Light scents are suitable for daytime and daily wear while the heavy scents are suitable for evening wear. It can also be said that mature women tend to wear perfumes that lean towards the heavier scents while younger women are drawn to lighter scents.
4) Set a day for your perfume testing and shopping without buying anything yet. Go to the mall and test at least four perfume brands at one time. You can spray two at the crook of your arms and another two on your wrists. Leave the store and window shop or go grocery shopping. Give time for the various scents to react to your body oils. This will give you the chance to smell the actual essential oils used in the perfume when the alcohol has dissipated. Leave it on for a few hours, snipping them from time to time. See which one smells right. Check that the perfume is not too heavy or too light. Determine if you will be using the scent for daytime or nighttime wear.
5) If you have not found anything that smells just right, wash your arms, soaping the crook of your arms and your wrists and try again. Remember what scent or brand you sprayed on each pulse point. Check at the perfume counter if they give out free samples or if they have testers for sale. This will give you more time to find the right scent.
Selecting the right perfume scent takes time and effort. You have to know that the first time you sprayed and smell a new perfume scent is not the true indication of how the perfume will actually smell once it has reacted to your body oils. Give the perfume the time it needs to reveal itself before you splurge.

Try it.....:)
